The Way of Ink, Water, and Brush Art
Sumi-e and Calligraphy
This exhibition showcases the exceptional works of students from the Center for Community Arts and beyond, guided by the expertise of Fumiyo Yoshikawa. Their pieces in Sumi-e and Calligraphy transform ink and water into artistic expressions that delve into the essence of Zen. Sumi-e, a traditional East Asian painting technique that originated in China and flourished in Japan, emphasizes simplicity, fluidity, and the power of expressive brushstrokes. In Yoshikawa's classes, students not only mastering these techniques but also exploring the deeper connections between this art form and the philosophies of Zen and Wabi Sabi. Through consistent practice, they refine their skills and find a path to inner tranquility, with each brushstroke leading them closer to serenity.
