Course Description:
The class will learn about Japanese traditional painting, its aesthetic and philosophy through this course. First, the class will practice basic brush strokes and techniques with bamboo brushes, sumi-ink and oriental paper by copying calligraphies and masters’ samples. Second, they will learn how to lay out a picture and the effective use of negative space, lines and gray tones. Third, they will learn how to mount a finished picture. Finally, each student will finish their original landscape painting and mount it by themselves.
