Japanese Painting Class at The ART CENTER



Fumiyo Yoshikawa will teach "Brush painting and beyond".

Description: The students will learn about Japanese traditional painting in this course; the class will study basic brush strokes and techniques using bamboo brushes, sumi-ink and oriental paper through practicing calligraphy, bamboos, flowers, birds and landscapes. ?Furthermore, the instructor, Fumiyo Yoshikawa, will introduce her own media called “nihonga” that has not yet been introduced to the U.S. widely. The students will know about the special dry pigments called Iwa-enogu and Suhi-enogu (made of mineral and other natural things), the glue called nikawa(made of animal skin and bone) and more. The students experiment unique techniques and the effects using some of those materials.
